Walked Not Worshipped: Living the Magdalene Current

Susan Sutherland

A subtle current is moving through our collective awakening—you can feel it in the rise of honest voices, the insistence of the body, and the hunger for something real. I call it the Magdalene Current - not a new idol to worship, but a living frequency to embody.

In this episode, I explore Mary Magdalene’s role as the bridge between the divine feminine and divine masculine, a current that restores what hierarchy once divided. Together we remember that love and truth are one light, and that embodiment is the natural evolution of ascension - not leaving the body, but anointing it with consciousness.

We talk about:

  • Healing the historical distortion that made Magdalene a sinner or saint
  • Reclaiming sacred union as integration, not hierarchy
  • Living intimacy with life instead of spiritual detachment
  • Honoring the body as a temple of divine wisdom
  • Boundaries as acts of devotion - keeping love flowing without martyrdom
  • A new model of feminine leadership that is soft, magnetic, and clear

You’ll also be guided through a short embodiment practice to feel where the Magdalene Current moves through your own body.

If this message stirs remembrance in you, let it shape how you live: speak kindly, move slowly, create beauty, and let your love be both human and divine.

There is a current moving through the earth right now that is subtle, but it is unmistakable. You can feel it in the rise of the feminine voices, in the return of truth through the body, in the longing of something that is real after centuries of imitation. The current has a name, but more importantly, it has a frequency. It is the Magdalene current, and it is not asking to be worshipped. It is asking to be lived. Today we enter the remembrance of Mary Magdalene, Miriam of Magdala, not as a figure of myth, but as a living frequency returning to consciousness. Her story was rewritten by power structures that feared her, not because she was fallen, but because she was free. The feminine current she carried was direct, embodied, and sovereign. And now that same current is rising again through us. Men and women alike, and this is important. It is asking to be integrated, not idolized. Throughout history, the Magdalene presence has been fragmented, sinner to some and saint to others, and unknown beyond a footnote to many. And the story was erased by those who didn't understand her. But try as they may, and they made, energy cannot be erased. It waited in the field until humanity was ready to remember. And we are living that readiness right now. You feel it, you sense it, and quite possibly you found me because you are in resonance with that return. But she returns not to claim a throne beside Yeshua, but to complete the teaching, to bring the word back into flesh. The return of the Magdalene current is not the rise of another religion. It is the remembrance that the body itself is holy ground. This current speaks through intuition and through emotion and through beauty and birth and grief. Through the places that religion once told us were unclean. And yet those are the portals of incarnation, the very gateways through which the divine experiences itself. So her message now is loud and clear. Do not place me on an altar. Walk beside me. Feel what I felt. Let love become real through you. The Magdalene Current cautions us against replacing one idol with another. She was never meant to become the feminine equivalent of a savior figure. Her role was to show that salvation was never required, only remembrance. When we worship her instead of embodying her, we recreate the same distortion that silenced her in the first place. When we imitate her essence, we keep it external, we keep it outside of us. But when we live her essence, when we walk through presence, when we speak with truth, when we forgive without losing boundaries, we become the continuation of her gospel. Magdalene's union with Yeshua was never about hierarchy. It was about harmony. It was two currents of the same light: the masculine and the feminine, the Christos and Sophia in sacred reciprocity. He carried the Logos, the word. She carried the womb, the embodiment. And together they revealed that heaven and earth were not separate. The distortion that followed, the elevation of one and the erasure of the other split humanity's consciousness for millennia. It birthed a world where the intellect was prized over intuition, dogma over direct knowing, power over presence. Her return is the restoration of that union, the remembrance that love and truth are not opposites, but reflections of the same source. I have found this to be an interesting and important understanding on my personal journey that I have had to walk through. As I have shared before, I have struggled with doubting myself or perhaps anticipating others doubting me because I do not have intellectual credentials. I do not have degrees to cite that provide my credibility. And we live in an intellectually dominated world. Either you need the degrees to prove it, or you need it to be said in the Bible, and that is where your validation lies. But that has been part of my walk with Magdalene is to release that programming and to understand that remembrance and direct knowing that is carried in the womb is enough. That is my embodied walk. And reading something and living something are very different experiences. So I want to talk with you today about that embodied walk. For those that feel this call, what does it mean to walk in the Magdalene Current now? Because that's the new path forward. Not quoting a scripture, but living this life. Walking with the current means to choose intimacy with life instead of spiritual detachment. The Magdalene Current asks us to live with our eyes and our hearts wide open, to let life touch us, move us, sometimes even break us wide open. Because only through intimacy can we embody love. For a long time, spirituality has been mistaken for distance, for transcendence, for transcending emotion, for bypassing pain, for rising above the messiness of being human. Being spiritual was seen as being calm and serene and detached and perfect. But love can't be lived from a distance. It asks for presence. It asks for participation. It asks us to say yes to the full range of the human experience. Not just the light, but also the shadow, the uncertainty, the ache. It asks us not to fear the pendulum swinging from high to low because we are the consciousness experiencing it all. Intimacy with life means being willing to see the beauty in the ordinary, to notice the sacred in a cup of tea, or to feel the holiness of rain falling on your skin, to recognize the divine in every face you meet. It means not closing your heart when the world feels heavy. And I know that it does. It means letting that heaviness deepen your capacity for compassion. Magdalene teaches that union with the divine is achieved not by escaping the world. It's revealed when we lean into it, when we choose to love this breath, this moment, this body, exactly as it is. Because to be intimate with life is to be intimate with God. And that is the path of embodied mysticism that she came to remind us of. Not keeping life clean, but living it fully, raw, messy, all of it. Walking with the Magdalene current means honoring the body as temple, not obstacle. For centuries, many spiritual paths have taught that the body is a distraction, it's a meet suit or something to transcend or control or purify or way beyond that. But the Magdalene current reverses that illusion. She reminds us that the body is not in the way of enlightenment. It is the way. Every cell is a sanctuary. Every sensation is a doorway into deeper knowing. This body is where heaven and earth meet, where spirit takes shape and love becomes tangible. It holds your codes and your memories and your gifts. To honor your body as a temple is to come home to it, not as your aesthetic project effects, but as a living altar. It means listening when it whispers and resting before it screams. It means feeding it with reverence rather than rules and trusting yourself over the influencers. It means letting it move and dance and weep and breathe and experience pleasure without shame. The Magdalene Current moves through touch and through sound and through rhythm. She teaches us that devotion can be as simple as placing your hand over your heart and saying, Thank you for carrying me. When we honor the body, we return holiness to the places that old systems forbade or deemed profane. Our blood, our breath, our pleasure, our hunger, our grief. These are not sins or conditions to transcend. They are sacraments to be lived. So let your body be your teacher. When it aches, listen. When it softens, trust. Every sensation is the divine trying to speak to you in your native tongue. Walking the Magdalene current means holding boundaries as acts of devotion, not laws of defense. Boundaries are one of the most misunderstood expressions of love. They are not barriers built out of fear. They are forms that allow love to flow safely. The Magdalene Current teaches that devotion without discernment dissolves into martyrdom. And yet discernment without an open heart hardens into judgment. And boundaries are where those two meet, where love and truth hold hands. When we hold our boundaries through devotion, we are not pushing others away. We are protecting the sacred within us. We are saying that the divine that lives in me deserves clear space to breathe. To pause when your energy feels depleted, to say no when something pulls you out of alignment, and to step back when presence feels like performance. This is how the Magdalene Current moves, not through endless giving, but through balanced giving. It reminds us that the chalice must remain upright if it's going to hold the line. So as you hold your boundaries, hold them with softness, not armor. Let them be permeable enough for grace to pass through, yet strong enough to protect what's holy within you. The embodied path of the Magdalene Current asks us to lead through softness, not subservience. True Magdalene leadership is not about hierarchy or control. It doesn't demand devotion, it inspires remembrance. Softness in her current is not weakness. It's strength refined through compassion and patience and presence. It's the strength to listen instead of reacting, to hold a standing vision while allowing others their own timing. It means to influence through resonance rather than authority. We have been conditioned to see leadership through the masculine lens of direction and dominance. But the Magdalene Path reveals another way. It is magnetic leadership. It's a presence so rooted in love that others simply rise by standing near it. Subservience says, I'll shrink so you can shine. But soft leadership says, let us both remember our light. To lead through softness is to let your power come through your beingness, not your striving. It is to walk into a room and shift its energy without saying a word. It's to model the truth that embodiment itself is influence. So when you speak or create or guide, let it come from the will of your heart, not the agenda of your mind. That is the Magdalena way of leading, which is gentle and clear and unwaveringly true. Y'all, we have been talking so much about ascension lately. And embodiment is the shift. It is the shift from ascending out of matter to anointing matter with consciousness. And that is a powerful distinction. In your daily life, this looks like slowing down when urgency tempts you to listening to what your body says before you listen to the algorithm. It means speaking truth even when your voice trembles. Because truth is love in motion. Now that is not when people say, I'm gonna speak by truth, and what they're doing is speaking their wounds. I'm talking about core level embodied truth. So you can see the Magdalene current everywhere if you look closely. It is in the women who are reclaiming their voices right now. It is in the men who are softening without losing strength, in communities that are remembering that love is not performance and it is presence and that they rise by supporting each other. Even in this collective upheaval, we see the exposure of false gurus, we see the dissolving of hierarchical structures. This is part of her work. And while things collapsing can be alarming because we long to hold on to what we know, even if it's crap, because it's familiar, understand that she is cleansing distortion from the temple of humanity. And every time you choose embodiment over escape, you contribute to that purification. So now let's take a breath together in through your nose, out through your mouth, just kind of settle into your body for a minute. Become aware of your breath and feel down into your body this holy place you live. Where does the Magdalene current move through you? Is it a tenderness in your chest? A warmth in your palms? A soft ache to live more truthfully. Let that be enough. You don't have to become her. You simply have to allow what she represents to awaken within you. Because her gospel was never lost. It was cleverly buried in the human heart. And it blooms again every time one of us dares to love from the inside out. If this current stirs something in you, a memory, a recognition, a longing, honor it by living it. Speak kindly, move slowly, create beauty. Let your love be unapologetically human and unmistakably divine. And share this remembrance with someone you know.
